Our Story

Why Sesura exists

As a violinist, I spent years playing in ensembles across Australia - from the NSW Arts Unit Orchestra to the Sydney Youth Orchestra and the Australian Youth Orchestra programs. Like most musicians, I learned to adapt to whatever chair was available, adjusting posture, compensating for height, and settling into positions that were rarely ideal.

Over time, it became clear that this was simply accepted as part of the experience.

Later, while studying industrial design in Sydney, I returned to this problem with a different lens. During my honours research, I focused on the physical wellbeing of orchestral musicians - looking closely at how seating influences posture, fatigue, and long-term strain.

What I found was consistent. Despite the demands placed on musicians, most orchestral chairs remain limited in function. Adjustments are often slow or impractical, mechanisms can introduce noise, broken parts are impossible to replace and many designs fail to balance usability with the practical needs of rehearsal spaces - such as efficient stacking for storage and transportation needs.

Sesura was created as a response to these constraints.

The goal was not to add complexity, but to resolve the fundamentals: a chair that can be adjusted quickly with one hand, reset easily between players, and integrate seamlessly into beautiful performance environments - while still presenting a considered, refined presence on stage. A chair that allows you to easily source and replace parts when you need it.

Working closely with my team of industrial designers at Vert in Sydney, we developed through many rounds of prototyping and testing with musicians across Australia, the design has been refined to balance precision, durability, and ease of use from musician to stage management.

In 2024 I was looking for investors to help me take the Sesura chair to market. After an extensive search, I decided to partner with Glanville Music Group who are well-established in the music products industry and are the owners of several music businesses including The Sydney String Centre and Adlib Music. With the addition of GMG to the Sesura team we have developed Sesura chair prototypes and as of May 2026 we are taking orders for our first production-run.

This is Sesura’s first product. It represents a focused effort to rethink orchestral seating through the lens of both musician and designer - combining lived experience with iterative development to create a tool that better supports performance at its foundation.

Because over hours of rehearsal and performance, even small details can make a real difference.
